Dade Association of School Psychologists

The Dade Association of School Psychologists (DASP) strongly advocates for the professional interests of school psychologists and students within Miami-Dade County Florida. DASP empowers school psychologists by promoting integrity, strong ethics, and effective professional practices that will lead to positive outcomes for all children and youth in the areas of learning, behavior, social-emotional development and overall mental health. DASP will support students, families, educational systems, and local communities in order to increase general awareness of the importance of positive mental health and it’s impact on academic functioning.

Robb Elementary School

To our school psychology community,

There really aren’t any words that don’t feel hollow right now. Families in Buffalo have barely had time to arrange funeral services for mothers, grandmothers, fathers, husbands – years of wisdom lost to hate. And now we face the loss of a piece of our future – the unimaginable loss of 19 little innocent lives and the adults from Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas who loved, educated, and tried to protect them from another senseless act of mass gun violence.

I share these links to NASP and FASP resources as well as the graphic below to support you and our local communities at this time. Sadly, we’ve been through this so many times you likely already know where to find them.

As we talk about safety with students this morning and in the days to come, we vow to continue to work together in advocacy to truly make schools safer for students both physically and psychologically.

I am so grateful for you and the work you do every day to support students and create healthy school climates that make schools safer. It’s our community that gives me a shred of hope this morning.

Sending you all love and hugs,

Joan Kappus, NCSP

DASP Response to COVID-19

These are not easy times for any of us. What our community and the world at large is experiencing is unprecedented. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we work together to make sure we advocate for our students, by establishing appropriate policies and procedures. The DASP Executive Board would like to share with DASP members its position statement on providing distance services. This statement was created to outline the challenges facing our profession during the current pandemic and our desire to continue to serve the children and families of Miami-Dade County whether in the public setting or in private practice.
